Amba pledge to seek vengeance against Bhisma in her next birth and burnt herself in the blazing fire. In next birth she was born as Drupada's son 'Shikandi' half brother of Draupadi and happened to be the cause of Bhisma's death in the battle of Kurukshetra.

Vichitravirya died without any children soon after marriage, leaving Satyavati's dream for her sons taking throne of Hastinapur into million pieces. The throne was left without any heir.

She called Bhisma, absolved him from his vow and begged him to marry and take the throne but he refused, with Bhisma's advise, Satyavati thought of procuring heirs for the throne by having her widowed daughter-in-law beget children through her offspring Vyasa who was born before her marriage.
