They spent last year of living incognito disguised as servant with assumed names at the court of king Virata of Matsya Kingdom. Yudhishtira as the learned Brahman (Kanaka); Bhima as a cook (Ballava); Arjuna as a female dance tutor (Brijanalla); Nakula as a horse groom (Damagranthi); Sahadeva as the Veterinary Doctor of cows (Tantipala); and Draupadi as a beautician (Sairandhari).

Duryodhana proficient net-work of intelligent spies had spread their dragnet all over to spot the Pandavas but their efforts were in vain. King Virata was least aware that these employees were none other than the Pandavas with their wife Draupadi. All of them took utmost care not to speak or look to each other, they behaved as perfect strangers to each other, and this was the secret of their success, failure would have meant repetition of exile for thirteen years.

The Queen's brother Kichaka, attracted by Sairandhari (Draupadi) beauty, openly expressed his thoughts to his sister, he told her to send Sairandhari to his room at night to serve the Royal wine, but Draupadi, fully aware of his bad intention, protested stating that serving wine is not her duty, she was employed only as as a professional beautician, but the queen threatened her that disobedience may cost her job!

She secretly met Kanaka (Yudhishtira) for help but he stated that being helpless saying she has to go through this humiliation to conceal their real identities, desolate and heartbroken she sought help of Ballava (Bhima) who readily agreed to help her.

Draupadi Stunning beauty makes every man to lose all his good senses and constantly puts her in trouble. Her beauty arouses all men who end up wanting her and humiliate her because of her faithfulness she was unavailable to Kichaka, Jayadhrata, Karna, Duryodhana all were victim of her beauty. Kunti didn't reverse her statement of sharing her among them; maybe she must have feared that her beauty might disrupt the harmony of Pandavas?

At night when Kichaka entered dimly lit bed room, he saw a lady totally covered from head to feet sitting on his bed, he was sure that his sister has sent Sairandhari (Draupadi) it could never be anybody else, he sat beside her, pulled her close lustily caressed her thighs, soon he realized that her arms felt muscular and masculine, sensing foul play with great apprehension he tried to flee but Bhima instantly nabbed him, broke his bones and smashed his skull in no time.

The next morning, when Kichaka was found dead, the queen blamed Sairandhari
(Draupadi) and ordered her to jump in the pure as sati, but others opined that this was definitely a man's job and that no woman could possibly break the bones or smash can human skull.

When news reached Hastinapur, Duryodhana was assured that this was definitely Bhisma's job, he who effortlessly killed Bakasur, Hidima, Kirmira and Jatasur, for him, it was but a child's play to kill Kichaka. He was very happy to track Pandavas who were in their thirteen years of exile, the stipulated last year to be spent incognito (agyatavasa) year.
