Mahabharata War - Day 2

Episode#56

The second day, the Pandavas army having fared badly on the first day of the battle, Dhrishtadyumna, devised corrective measures and the army was carefully arrayed to infuse confidence in the warriors!

Duryodhana filled with confidence due to the outcome of their tremendous success on the first day stood in the centre and addressed his warriors "My armoured heroes, our victory is assured, fight and care not for life" he shouted with great pride.

The Kauravas army led by Bhisma strongly attacked the Pandavas forces and slay large numbers! Arjuna said to Krishna "If this continues, our army will soon be destroyed by Bhisma Pitamah, unless we eliminate him, I am afraid we cannot save our army." "Arjuna get ready then, let's face him now!" Stating this Vasudev Krishna sped his chariot with great speed straight towards him; Bhisma retaliated with the help of his shafts; besides Duryodhana had ordered his men to protect grandsire Bhisma by for.ing a cordon around him.

Arjuna chariot flashed through hostile ranks like tounges of forked lighting so rapidly that the eyes ached to follow his chariot while Duryodhana heart beat fast as he watches this combat. His confidence in Bhisma Pitamah begin to dwindle and he said "Pitamah, even though you and Drona make a fine pair, this overpowering combination of Arjuna and Krishna will destroy our entire army! Karna devotion and loyalty are being wasted since he cannot battle, only because of you. I feel I am being deceived, more so since you are not restoring to speedy measures to destroy Arjuna."

One of the Satyaki shafts dislodged Bhisma charioteer resulting in the horses of Bhisma chariot running amok and unmonitored carrying Bhisma away from the field. This worked in favour of the Pandavas army who took advantage of the situation and made a fierce attack on the kauravas army. The kauravas army suffered great losses as the aftermath of Arjuna's undisputed valour.

The generals of Kauravas as army were greatly agitated and their previous day's enthusiasm drained off instantaneous, they eagerly looked forward to sunset when they could put an end to day's battle.

The Pandavas, Arjuna and others returned in great cheer and merriment to their camp, with bands playing at the end of the second day's battle. The Laura as were at low morale - just as the Landscape were the previous day.

Far away, Draupadi nestled at a far off place, still walked down the memory lane. She remembered the incident after their marriage when Yudhishtira glad told his mother Kunti who was praying with her back facing to them that we had won a prize and Kunti inadvertently she had said "Distribute the prize amongst all five of you." Yudhishtira had blindly followed what was being told causing great lain and ignominy to the silently suffering Draupadi, her heart sank when she was shares by five Pandavas as if she was a mere object of beauty and fascination, after going  through all mental turmoil, and silently accepting all five Pandavas as her husband's, they had the outrageous privilege to marry other women of their individual choices! Thus Draupadi was unconsciously forced to live a polyandrous as well as a polygamous life style which she whole heatedly abhorred all along.
