Episode#70
The sixteenth day: After Drona died, the Kauravas Princes inducted Karna as the Commander-in-chief. Karna stood up in his gorgeous war-chariot driven by Salya. His dauntless confidence and his great warrior skills encouraged the Kauravas. Thus the battle began once again.
Arjuna, supported by Bhima immediately behind his chariot, attacked Karna but Dusshasana sent shower of arrows at Bhima. Bhima chuckled to himself "I have this wretch now safe in my hands. I shall today redeem my promise to Draupadi. My oath has waited long enough for performance." As Bhima remembered what Dusshasana had done to Draupadi, the volcano of fury blazed up uncontrollably; he threw his weapons, jumped from his chariot and leapt upon Dusshasana like a tiger on its prey, he hurled him down with enormous force and broke his limbs. "Wicked beast, is this the wretched hand that held Draupadi by her hair? Here, I tear it out from the root of your body. If anybody is wishing to help you, let him come forward and try!" Glaring hateful at Duryodhana as he roared this challenge, Bhima tore Dusshasana arm out and threw the bleeding limb on the battlefield. And then he fulfilled the terrible oath he had taken thirteen years before. He sucked blood from his enemy's body like a beast of prey and danced on the bloody field, mad with passion. "I have done it!" He roared. "The oath I swore against this great sinner has been redeemed! Now it is Duryodhana turn! Let him also prepare." The scene made everyone shudder. Finally Draupadi would be able to tie her hair with the blood obtained from Dusshasana chest. Even Karna was shaken as he saw Bhima in this horrendous ecstasy of wrath! "Do not flinch," said Salya to Karna. "It does not befit you to show any sign of fear! When Duryodhana stands quivering in despair; it is not right that you should be disheartened. After Dusshasana death, our hopes rest solely on you. You must now bear the full burden. Like the gallant warrior you are, seek single combat with Arjuna and win so that all the complexities will be resolved." With these words, Karna regained his courageous spirit. With crimson eyes and images tears, he asked Salya to drive the chariot towards Arjuna.
"Enough of battle" Aswasthama addressed Duryodhana earnestly. "Let us terminate this disastrous enmity. Beloved friend, make peace with Pandavas. Stop the battle!" "What? Did you not hear the words that the stubborn Bhima uttered when he drank my brother's blood and dance over his mangled body? Peace talks are now futile - why do you speak peace?" Said Duryodhana. Saying thus, he ordered a fresh regiment of army forces and ordered an attack.
At the end of sixteenth day, a grand celebration in the Pandavas camp ensued and Draupadi visit to congratulate Bhima. She clearly remembered on the day she was disrobed - out of her five husbands only Bhima challenged Duryodhana and Dusshasana openly - and today after thirteen years he fulfilled his oath! With this Bhima had demonstrated his true love for Draupadi. His eyes was filled with tears of happiness, Draupadi realised that out of her five husbands though she loved Arjuna the most, Bhima proved his true love towards Draupadi with his actions!
