Untold story: Episode 92
Mahabharata is a lunar dynasty. It begins with King Soma (Moon) followed by Puruvas, Nashusha and Yayati. After Yayati, Puru was made the king, rest of his sons were disinherited, including the Yadu (Yadavas). While Puru carried a flagship of Lunar Dynasty, his son Dushayanta married Shakuntala. Bharat was their son. Bharat Varsh owes it's name to him. Bharat had a grandson Kuru and Kuru's grandson was Shantanu.
Shantanu married to Satyavati. They had grandchildren Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. Shantanu had a son Bhisma through Ganga before marriage, Satyavati had a son Krishna Dvaiyapayna (Ved Vyasa) through sage Parashara.
After Vichitravirya's death, Satyavati summoned her son Krishna Dvaiyapayna to impregnate Vichitravirya's wives. Thus were born Dhritarashtra, Pansy, and Vidura.
In the battle of Kurukshetra, Pandavas were victorious, but five sons of Draupadi died. Ghatotkacha, Bhima's son through Hidimba died and Arjuna son through Subhadra, Abhimanyu also died. Abhimanyu son Parikshit inherited the throne of Hastinapur, but was killed by Nagas and his son Janemajaya becomes the king of Bharat Varsh.
The Vrishnis and Sursena (Yadavas) form a political alliance with the Kurus through matrimonial alliance. His sister Subhadra married to Arjuna. Similarly Pandavas ally with Drupada of Panchala, Draupadi's father. All these Royal alliance helped Yadavas to defeat Jarasandha of Magadh and Shisupal of Chedi. Abhimanyu gets married with Princess Uttara of Matysa kingdom.
In the battle of Kurukshetra, there are the Pandavas with their allies Panchala, Kashi, Magadha, Matysa, and Chedi. Kauravas have Pragjyotisha, Anga, Kekaya, Sindhu, Avanti, Gandhara, Shalva, Bahalika, and Kamboja. After the battle of Kurukshetra entire geographical expanse comes under the Yadavas and Pandavas. Kripacharya, Ashvathamma, and Kritavarma survives from Kauravas side.
