Death of Bakasur and birth of Ghatotkacha

After escaping from the wax house, the Pandavas wandered from place to place like poor homeless Brahmins without food and shelter, the knew returning to Hastinapur was suicidal and hence they took shelter in the hut of a young Brahmin couple in the nearby village, they would live incognito till they empowered themselves sufficiently to combat the cruel conceited Kauravas.

A huge demon named Bakasur who lived nearby the village and harassed the villagers. He had a voracious appetite and would gobble up animals, men, women and children. Finally, the villagers came to a settlement with Bakasur that every fortnight they will provide him food by turns, and the demon will eat the food as well as the Bullock and the delivery person too.

The next turn was of the young Brahmin couple! The wife thought that if her husband went to deliver the food, Bakasur would devour him and consequently she and her daughter will be left alone in the world, when she told her story to Kunti, she asked Bhima to go and deliver the food to Bakasur, despite protest from the Brahmin couple Kunti sent Bhima as she was assuredly confident of his enormous strength that Bhima will effortlessly get rid of Bakasur and that his nuisance will come to an end.

Bhima entered into the forest but there was no sign of demon, Bhima had been hungry for a long time and when he saw a cartload of delicious food, he immediately started consuming, from distance Bakasur lost his temper when he saw his food being consumed by Bhima and assaulted him, they fought tooth-and-nail for hours and in the end, Bhima managed to kill him by breaking his neck. He threw the body in the cart and took around the village; the villagers were very happy to meet their rescuer who killed Bakasur and saved their lives. A fleeting doubt passed their mind whether they were Kshatriyas seeing Bhima unparalleled valor and his selfless services to protect the weak without seeking a reward of recognition.

After killing Bakasur, the Pandavas returned to the forest, Hidimba recognized Bhima who had killed her brother but after meeting him in person, she fell in love for his valor and courage, she decided to marry him but being aware that she would not have been readily accepted in her demonic form by Kunti and others; she transformed herself into beautiful maiden with her magical power, then she invited all the Pandavas and mother Kunti to her beautiful house and served them with delicious food, warm apparel and provided shelter. Kunti pleased with her hospitality, allowed Bhima to marry her. The son born to them was named as Ghatotkacha.

After few years Kunti realized that they could not live in one place, they had to be constantly on the move, she told Bhima it was time to go, at the painful of bidding farewell, his little son Ghatotkacha spoke like a young man and said "Father, if you need any help, you just remember me I will be there" they left with tearful eyes and a heavy heart!

They reached King Drupada's capital on the day when he was holding a Swayamwara for Princess Draupadi.

Gandhari: My son Duryodhana was invincible...!

Episode#68 News of Arjuna's oath reached the enemy. The spies informed Duryodhana that Arjuna, having learnt that Jayadratha was the cause of Abhimanyu death, had vowed to kill Jayadratha before sunset the next day. Vriddhakshatra, the illustrious King of Sindhi's was blessed with a son Jayadratha. During his breath, a voice was heard to say: "This prince will attain great glory in the happy regions above after being slain in the battle. One who, among the warriors of all ages, ranks among the most illustrious, will in the field of battle shall get his head severed from the body."
