When king Janamejaya came to know that his father killer Takshaka is roaming free as he was protected by Lord Indra. He decided to avenge the unlawful curse upon his father King Parikshit to kill the race of Nagar, he performed a great sacrifice called Sarpa-yajna, to kill the race of Nagas, including Takshaka who had bitten his father to death.
On the request of many influential demigod and sages, he hear the voice from the sky to stop this adharma! I am Astika, nephew of King of Nagas, he continued "My father was the Rishi Jaratkaru, A human like you, my mother was a Naga, I am human serpent, your friend as well your enemy, do what I say or you will regret that all your descendants will be killed.

Listening to him Janamejaya ordered to stop the sacrifice of Nagas, the chanting stopped,  and there was silence all were looking to the king. Janamejaya defended himself saying "I do this for justice" Astika replied with anger "Takshaka killed your father for justice; you kill Nagas for justice. The orphans you create by this yajan will also demand justice. Who will decide what justice is? If everyone start believing that they are right and their enemies are wrong?" He was silent and thinking to what Astika told, he questioned "did Pandavas not fight with Kauravas for justice?" Astika replied "No, that war was about Dharma, and Dharma is not about justice; It is about empathy and wisdom. Dharma is not about defeating others, it is about conquering ourselves. Everybody wins in Dharma. After war of Kurukshetra even Kauravas went to heaven." Listening to him Janamejaya said surprisingly "I never knew this" Astika lamented "There is so much you don't know, you have inherited the kingdom of Pandavas but not their wisdom. You don't know the real meaning of Dharma which was revealed by Lord Krishna to your great grandfather Arjuna. " he exclaimed "Lord Krishna! Tell me more."

Astika appeared and shocked to see the face of Janamejaya and he said "Do you know a two beautiful young girls living in forest?" Janamejaya shook his head and asked "Why?" He was confused and said "many years ago I met two beautiful young girls living in forest they had one painting a boy looking exactly like you hold the girl from her waist and bending down putting his lips on her lips." Hearing this Janamejaya almost jumped out of his chair and exclaimed "what? Who? Where? Looking to the king's reaction Astika was taken aback he told it was in the forest near to Hastinapur. Soon he ordered his army to go and find out those two girls and present them before him!
