Entry of Karna

Episode#17

Once Drona organized a game show to exhibit the proficiency of various skills of his pupils; Dhritarashtra, Bhisma, Vidura, Gandhari, Kunti and entire court along with all the courtiers formed a eager audience.

All were awestruck and spellbound watching the Pandavas and Kauravas displaying their magnificent skills with total confidence and ease.

At this critical juncture, Karna suddenly entered uninvited, displayed his skills of archery before the assembled dignitaries and challenged Arjuna for a dual.

This dual did not take place as Karna was discovered to be base born, the son of a lowly charioteer Adhirata.

Duryodhana, proficient in mind games, vowed eternal friendship to Karna by conferring the throne of small township and declaring him as a King - but in reality, he was building up a strong Ally against the Pandavas, he applied the same statergy in case of Aswasthama (Drona's son) to use him as his Trump card, with these two Trump cards in hand, Duryodhana, aided by Sakuni played vicious games with Pandavas till the entire situation led into an ill fated war at Kurukshetra.

Arjuna is a son of Indra and Karna the son of Surya, both Indra and Surya were rivals, each claiming his supremacy in the Vedic pantheon.

In Ramayana Vali was the son of Indra and Sugriva the son of Surya, the God in form of Rama sides Sugriva over Vali.

In Mahabharata, God changes allies, in Krishna form of God favors Arjuna son of Indra over Karna son of Surya, thus the balance is achieved between two gods Rama & Krishna over two lifetimes.

On this occasion Kunti happens to recognize her long departed son Karna from afar due to his symbolic Surya-Kundal (earrings) and Surya-Kavach (armour).

If at this point of time, Kunti had dared to accept Karna as her eldest Pandavas in the court as the sixth Pandavas, would the battle of Kurukshetra been averted? That is a moot question with difussing answers - all but inclusive in every way.

After this dual sports was over, Pandavas name was on everybody's lips, and the word spread that Yudhishtira would be crowned as the unquestioned King.

Duryodhana flew in a great rage and in conspiracy with his uncle Sakuni -  and feigned consultation with his father, sent the Pandavas on piligrimage to varnavrata, a distant town on the border of the kingdom, where Duryodhana and Sakuni planned to burn the Pandavas alive in the house of wax.

Later Duryodhana proceeded to Mathura for the advance mace training from Balrama elder brother of Vasudev Krishna and Subhadra.
